The Embassy of India in Azerbaijan hosted a reception on the country's 63rd Republic Day anniversary last Saturday.

Ambassador Vinod Kumar briefed the event participants on India's achievements in various fields and touched upon the historical relations between the two countries.

Kumar said India was one of the countries that established diplomatic relations with Azerbaijan after gaining the independence, adding that the two countries' ties would further expand.

Kumar also underlined successful development of the two countries' economic cooperation and voiced hope for future prospects.

On behalf of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov congratulated the Indian people on the occasion of the holiday and delivered the best wishes and greetings from the President.

He said the existing relations between Azerbaijan and India were steadily developing for the prosperity of their people.

Bagirov welcomed the Azerbaijan-India intergovernmental commission's activity, adding that the commission was successfully working in the cultural, economic and technological fields and was giving an impetus to the development of bilateral relations.

The Minister emphasized that Azerbaijan was interested in the development of relations with all countries in various spheres and attaches great importance to its relations with India.

The event brought together Azerbaijani government officials, MPs and ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in the country including Turkey, Morocco, Belarus, China, U.S., and France, as well as public representatives.

According to Kumar, the Indian Embassy has been marking the country's Republic Day in Azerbaijan since 1999, and the event has captured the hearts of Baku residents.

The Indian Republic Day honors the date January 26, 1950, when the Constitution of India came into force and India became a republic.

The Azerbaijani-Indian relations have deep historical roots. Interaction throughout ages has contributed to the cultural enrichment of both countries.

The Great Silk Road connected Azerbaijan and India from time immemorial. Indian worshipers were fond of the temple of fireworshipers Ateshgah in Baku since ancient times.

Azerbaijan celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India in 2012.
