Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili met with Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on January 20.

The parties discussed Georgia-Turkey's relations as those of two reliable and strategic partners, focusing on the prospects of future cooperation, Margvelashvili's office reported.

It was mentioned that Turkey was a leading trade partner for Georgia, and it was therefore exceedingly important for Georgia to have more access to Turkey's market and less technical obstacles for exporting Georgian products.

The parties also discussed the significant projects which the two countries are implementing jointly, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway construction and activities adopted for protecting cultural heritage.

Magvelashvili also held a meeting with chairperson of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Cicek, and the sides focused on issues of bilateral relations and regional development.

Magvelashvili also met with the representatives of Georgian Diaspora together with Georgian governmental delegation. He addressed the compatriots residing in Turkey and thanked them for maintaining Georgian traditions and culture.
