Azerbaijan, France to ink co-op documents during president’s visit

Azerbaijan and France will sign a number of agreements on bilateral cooperation during French President Francois Hollande's official visit to Azerbaijan.

French ambassador to Azerbaijan, Pascal Monnier made remarks at the presentation of twinning projects supporting the development of medical and social rehabilitation of disabled persons in Azerbaijan on May 2.

"These documents will relate to the cooperation between our countries in the areas of environment protection, ICT, energy and transport," Monnier said.

He further informed that Hollande's visit to Baku will take place in the coming weeks.

"Currently, we are preparing the drafts of the relevant agreements. I am confident that the cooperation between our countries will develop successfully," Monnier added.

French President will visit Azerbaijan in the framework of a tour of the South Caucasus countries. He earlier confirmed his intention to visit Azerbaijan at a meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Elchin Amirbayov.

The visit, which is scheduled for May 11-12, will discuss a range of issues on political and economic cooperation.

Trade turnover between the two countries in the first quarter of 2014 increased by more than half, consisting of 370.179 million dollars, where the share of exports accounted to 334.52 million.

France recognized Azerbaijan's independence on January 3, 1992. Azerbaijan and France established diplomatic relations on February 21, 1992.

France Embassy was established in Baku on March 16, 1992. The Azerbaijani Embassy was established in Paris on October 20, 1994.
