Azerbaijani diplomat’s article on Nizami Ganjavi published in UN magazine

An article about great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi by Azerbaijan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Murad Najafbayli, was published this month in the UN Special monthly magazine.

The article, entitled "Nizami Ganjavi. An unattainable example of human genius", was released in the 727th edition of the journal and is available at http://www.unspecial.org/2013/04/nizami-ganjavi/.

UN Special is considered one of the most popular publications among the diplomatic corps accredited to the Geneva Office of the UN and other international organizations in Switzerland.

The article features the life and work of poet Nizami Ganjavi, an outstanding representative of the medieval philosophical poetry, and his dignified place in the history of world literature. The article notes that Ganja was the main place of the literary activity of the poet.

The literary and philosophical novelties brought by Nizami Ganjavi to the national and world poetry are analyzed in the article. It also points out that the human factor, happiness was a key topic in his works. Later this theme came up in the works of philosophers of the European Renaissance.

The article reads that the famous "Five Treasures" - five immortal poems of Nizami - brought a quite new poetic voice and impulse to world literature.

It underlines the humanistic nature of Nizami and notes the mastery and virtuosity of the modern approach of the Azerbaijani poet to historical issues, which was expressed in his works in a language of fine art, thoughts, the wishes and aspirations of the people of that time.

The principles of humanity and democracy, defined by the genius, stimulated the spread of humanistic and democratic ideas and trends not only in Azerbaijani literature, but also in the literary works published in the Near and Middle East as well as the West, the article reads.

Nizami Ganjavi, who attached great importance to freedom of expression and speech, substantiated the idea of ​​"pacifism", which was later reflected in the Charter of the United Nations. Nizami called on ordinary people and especially the states of his time to peace and security.

The article points out that the name of the great poet and philosopher was immortalized in his native land Azerbaijan where his 800th and 840th anniversaries were widely marked; currently various events are planned to celebrate the 870th anniversary of the great poet in Azerbaijan and abroad.

The article is also illustrated with a portrait of Nizami Ganjavi and a picture of Nizami Mausoleum in Ganja, Azerbaijan's second largest city, where he was buried.
