Iran says ready for mass production of new radars

By Sara Rajabova

Iran, which recently announced that it has reached self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems, said it is ready to mass-produce its three home-made radars.

Commenting on Iran's achievements in military technology, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said the defense ministry tries to develop Iran's defense power to reach an effective deterrence point, ISNA reported.

He said Iran has increased accuracy and power of its long-range missiles, adding that circular error probability of the missiles has been reduced to 2 meters.

Dehghan also said that defense technology researches are among priorities of the defense ministry.

In late November, Iran unveiled a new naval phased array long-range radar system dubbed 'Asr', which was manufactured by Navy Industrial Research and Self-Sufficiency Organization.

The Iranian army recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes, and tested a large number of its domestic weapons, tools, and equipment, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircrafts, UAVs, and air defense and electronic systems during massive military drills.

Tehran established an arms development program during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the U.S. and its Western allies.

Since 1992, Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes.

Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
