U.S to open facilities to ensure maritime security in Georgia
The U.S. will open several facilities in Georgia to ensure the safety of maritime boundaries.
The U.S. Embassy in Georgia told Trend news agency on Monday that U.S. Ambassador Richard Norland will visit Batumi and Poti on April 1-3, where he will participate in several activities and meet with representatives of the local authorities.
According to the information, the ambassador will open the maritime operations control center in Supsa. The center is a unique facility in the Black Sea. Its purpose is to combat trafficking and crime through inter-ministerial cooperation.
The U.S. administration allocated $1.2 million to the project within the export and border security control program.
The opening of the marine operations center will strengthen the security of the Georgian borders as a transit country.
Norland will also visit a control group in a container customs control zone and deliver "Toyota Land Cruiser" car in Poti. Afterwards, he will open a facility to repair Coast Guard vessels. The U.S. allocated $6 million for its establishment.
The U.S. administration has allocated $12 million to strengthen the security of maritime boundaries and Georgian Coast Guard since 2006.
