Georgia, OSCE support Geneva talks
By Jamila Babayeva
Georgian First Deputy Foreign Minister met the OSCE Chairmanship's Special Representative for the South Caucasus and co-chair of Geneva Talks.
At the meeting, Gnädinger congratulated the Georgian side on signing the Association Agreement with the EU, the Georgian ministry reported.
On his part, Zalkaliani emphasized the importance of the Association Agreement, including the deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, for Georgia and its occupied regions.
The sides also focused on the results of the 28th round of Geneva Talks held on June 18, 2014, and the necessity of maintaining and continuing this format.
The first meeting of Georgian and Russian official representatives was held in Geneva on December 14, 2012.
Georgia and Russia, its giant northern neighbor, have maintained no diplomatic relations since a brief war in 2008. Tbilisi broke off relations with Moscow in August 2008 when Moscow crushed a Georgian assault to reassert control over two rebel regions -South Ossetia and Abkhazia- and later recognized the regions. Georgia announced the two unrecognized republics as occupied territories in September 2008.
