Venice Commission has urged political forces in Georgia to reconcile.

"You now need reconciliation, not revenge," the President of Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio said at a briefing in Tbilisi on January 16.

He stressed that only cooperation of political forces will allow Georgia to develop.

"During my meetings in Tbilisi, it seemed to me that there is still an atmosphere of cooperation and this is good," Buquicchio said, stressing that Georgia has always needed a cooperation of opposing political forces.

The Venice Commission delegation had a two-day visit to Georgia.

During the visit, the delegation held several meetings with the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili, and a number of MPs. The two sides discussed ongoing developments, reforms and legislative amendments in the country.

"The Venice Commission is ready to help Georgia in carrying out constitutional reform,' Buquicchio said, after his meeting with David Usupashvili.

The leaders of the Venice Commission also met with members of the state commission on constitutional reform.

Vice-speaker of Georgian parliament Zurab Abashidze said after the meeting that the Venice Commission is ready to cooperate, adding that Tbilisi welcomes the move.

"We all agree on one thing; it is necessary to amend the Constitution. There are many norms that require a review and processing, but this does not mean that the Constitution should be changed completely," he said.
