World of Tanks tournament due in Baku

Azerbaijani gamers will get together in the Marriott Absheron Baku Hotel at 12:00 on September 26 to determine the best gamer at the World of Tanks tournament.

The event is co-organized by the Azerbaijan E-Sport Federation and WarGaming Company, with support of the Azerbaijan Youth and Sports Ministry.

Qualifiers will take place online, and the finals of the tournament will be held in Baku’s Marriott Hotel.

The registration has started from September 7 and will last until September 13, while the online qualifying games will be held on September 14.

The number of gamers is not limited, the E-Sport Federation told to echo.az.

First place winners will receive 200,000 gold [special in-game currency] plus 3,000 manat for the team, the second place team will receive 150,000 gold and 1,500 manat, third place will be awarded 100,000 gold and 500 manat, and the fourth place winner will receive 50,000 gold.

The prize fund of Individuals is 40,000 gold + Apple Iphone 6 (64GB) for the first place, 30,000 gold + Microsoft Xbox One for the second place, and 20,000 gold + Apple Ipad mini 3 (16GB) for the third place.

Federation president Ramil Aliyev said that the tournament will be held in two formats: team and individual competitions.

“Individual competition takes place without pre-registration. Anyone will have a chance to take part in it for free. In addition to the competition, among all who attended the event, prizes will be awarded by the Wargaming. Andrey Rodnoy from the Russian Comedy Radio will be leading of the tournament. I am confident that this event will be very interesting, so I hope that everyone who is interested in e-sports, will take part in it,” he said.

The tournament is single elimination based on battle count. In the play-off rounds, the winner is that team first wins two victories in series of four fights.

“The main team must have at least two citizens of Azerbaijan. The team should consist of at least three main players and one reserve player. At the same time the total number of players should not exceed four people. The team, consisting of at least three players are not allowed to participate in the tournament,” Aliyev noted.

Electronic sports are a well-developing activity in Azerbaijan. The Cyber Sport Federation of the country was established in June 2011. IeSF, established in 2008, is an International Federation that manages all e-Sports activity. The Federation aims to make e-Sports recognized as an official sport discipline.

Last year, Baku hosted the 6th e-Sport World Championship, which was attended by over 250 gamers from 33 countries. The total prize fund was 90,000 manat, the largest prize pool in the history of computer games world championships.
