The Turkmen Industry Ministry is planning to establish an enterprise for production of import-substituting and high-demand building materials. The project is expected to be implemented jointly with the country's Milli Onum Company.

The issue was on highest agenda during the meeting of the country’s government. Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, addressing the meeting, underlined the importance of expanding the construction sector through creating joint enterprises with the participation of middle and small businesses.

The new enterprise is expected to produce about 100,000 tons of gypsum, 250,000 tons of dry building mixes as well as 12 million square meters of gypsum plasterboard annually on the basis of domestic raw materials.

Energy-rich Turkmenistan currently seeks to achieve the diversification of its national economy by means of promotion of non-oil sector.

Application of innovative technology, increase of output in the sphere of import-substituting and export-oriented production with the use of local raw materials is considered to be one of the necessary conditions for the stable growth of the country’s industrial sphere.

Growing volume of construction work stipulates the need for providing the industry with building materials.

Previously President Berdimuhammadov has instructed the relevant government ministers to consider possibilities of increasing cement production in the country, the Turkmen Altyn Asyr TV channel reported.

The country’s construction industry is also important in terms of its potential to attract foreign investments.
