Georgia offers assistance to Moscow for Sochi Olympic Games
There is always a threat of terrorist act during large-scale events such as the Olympics, Georgia's Foreign Minister Maia Panjikidze said on Wednesday, commenting on the call by 'Caucasus Emirate' leader Doku Umarov to his fighters to disrupt the Olympic Games in Sochi.
"Generally, when such a large event is held, regardless of its venue, there is always the threat that some group will try to thwart it or organize a terrorist attack. This has taken place in the past. Based on this, I think the organizers will provide security measures at the appropriate level," she said.
The minister said that Georgia has officially expressed its willingness to cooperate with Russia on security matters during the Sochi Olympics.
