Interest in research work has increased among young people in Azerbaijan, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said.

He made the statement at a meeting which was held on the occasion of the execution of the State Program "Azerbaijani youth in 2011-2015" for the period from July 2012 to December 2013.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Intigam Babayev, government officials, representatives of NGOs, and some other guests.

Opening the event, Rahimov said the Youth Foundation was established, a Presidential award was found, and six worthy candidates were awarded on February 5 under the state program.

Moreover, youth houses were built in 23 cities and regions, construction of 14 more houses started, and a database for young professionals was set up.

Rahimov said that the Science Development Fund under the Azerbaijani President has financed projects totaling more than one million manats since 2011.

"Last year, Baku hosted a simulation game on cyber security, with the participation of representatives of member countries of the UN Security Council."

The ministry has funded 137 projects totaling 5.5 million manats.

Intigam Babayev said the Cabinet of Ministers in November last year adopted rules, providing talented youth with state-owned workshops and exhibition halls on special terms.

Moreover, the project to empower young people's access to mortgage loans under the state program was sent to the Cabinet.

To expand the scope of programs for the youth, Azerbaijan annually chooses its youth capital. This year, the northern city of Guba was chosen.

This nomination paves the way for more active participation of young people in the social, political and cultural life of the Youth Capital. Moreover, the city pays more attention to implement creative ideas for involving young people in social life.
