Azerbaijani police seize over 21 kg of drugs in major anti-narcotics operation

Law enforcement officers in Baku’s Nasimi district have detained two individuals as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Azernews reports.
According to the ministry, during the latest operation, 32-year-old Rahib Alakbarli and 29-year-old Samir Khairullayev—both previously convicted—were arrested. Authorities seized a total of 21 kilograms and 735 grams of narcotics and psychotropic substances, including hashish, marijuana, and methamphetamine, from their possession.
The two suspects confessed to having been recruited by Iranian nationals—whose identities are currently under investigation—to work as drug couriers. They reportedly planned to distribute the drugs to various locations in exchange for financial compensation.
Criminal proceedings have been launched, and an investigation is underway. Police officials noted that operations are continuing to identify and bring to justice additional members of the drug trafficking network.
