EU foreign ministers to discuss normalization between Azerbaijan and Armenia
Today, the Foreign Ministers of the EU countries will discuss military assistance and security guarantees to Ukraine, relations with Turkiye and China, as well as the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia during the upcoming meeting in Brussels.
According to Azernews, this was stated by a high-ranking European source.
According to him, the meeting of the Foreign Ministry Council will begin with a working breakfast with the participation of the UN representative on human rights. Then the main meeting of the Foreign Ministry Council will begin, which will be devoted to three topics: the conflict in Ukraine, the foreign policy aspect of economic security, as well as relations with Turkiye," the source said.
He also noted that in the afternoon the EU foreign ministers will hold an hour-and-a-half online discussion with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on a wide range of issues. It is noted that there is no clear agenda for discussions with Blinken, but it is clear that discussions around the conflict in Ukraine and relations with China will continue, he added.
At the end of the meeting, the ministers plan to discuss current issues, including China, the results of the July 17-18 summit with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan, etc.
When discussing economic security, the ministers will hold a discussion on reducing dependence on third countries that "have the potential to use trade and the economy as a weapon."
The source stressed that the foreign ministers of the EU countries when discussing China, want to touch upon issues related to European economic security, as well as building "harmonious" relations with Beijing.
The meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers will begin in Brussels at 10.00 local time, and the final press conference of European diplomacy Josep Borrell is expected in the evening.
