Azerbaijani firm to reconstruct Uzbek roads

The Azerbaijani Evrascon Company undersigned a contract with the Uzbek government for the reconstruction of the Guzar -Bukhara- Nukus- Beineu (A380) road in the Bukhara region, a representative of the Road Fund under the Uzbek Finance told Ministry told Trend news agency.

The Azerbaijani company won the tender for the road reconstruction announced in May 2012. The winner must reconstruct a 40- kilometre stretch of the road by replacing a two-lane asphalt covering with a four-lane cement concrete one within the contract worth $66.5 million finishing in 2015.

The reconstruction project is to be financed through the multi-tranche financing programme of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for a total of $1.1 billion.

In May 2009 the Uzbek president approved the construction of the first category of the national highway worth $3.44 billion in 2009-2015. It is planned to build four road sections running to a total length of 2306 kilometres as part of the programme in the country in 2016. The project is financed by the government to the amount of $2.07 billion and loans of foreign financial institutions.

The total length of roads in Uzbekistan is about 150,000 kilometres. Some 45,000 kilometres fall to the public highways, including 3200 kilometres to international highways and 18,800 kilometres to national highways. Around 20 international transport routes pass through the territory of Uzbekistan.
