Azerbaijani athletes must show good results at Baku 2015

Azerbaijani athletes must show good results and win medals at the first European Games in Baku, said Azad Rahimov, Youth and Sports Minister.
Addressing a meeting devoted to the preparation of the Azerbaijani sports federations to the Baku 2015 on April 9, Rahimov said, all the conditions for the athletes have been created in order to achieve good results, the state takes great care of them.
The host country Azerbaijan will be represented by about 320 athletes at the Games. The event will attract 18,000 volunteers.
Azerbaijani sportsmen have shown good results at the Olympic Games in London, he stressed, and in the first European Games should show even better results.
The continental sporting event is the third largest mass event after the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, he said.
Rahimov emphasized that the inaugural European Games is the biggest event in the history of Azerbaijan, saying that everything necessary is made to hold them at a high level.
The minister stressed that all sports facilities will be commissioned in April. All the necessary work to ensure the safety and transport is also implemented timely.
This year’s exciting and innovative new multi-sport event in Baku will include 20 sports, 16 of which are Olympic, during the 17 days of competition in June 12-28. 6,000 athletes will prove themselves in Azerbaijan’s capital.
