Azerbaijan’s Aliyev claims world crown
Azerbaijani wrestler Haji Aliyev has picked up the gold medal in the men's 61kg freestyle wrestling at the World Championship in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The athlete secured the world crown as he beat Iranian Masoud Esmailpour 12-7 in the final, AzerTag state news agency reported.
On the way to the final, Aliyev defeated Ukrainian Vasily Shuptar, Polish Krzysztof Bienkowski, Moldovan Andrei Perpelita and Cuban Yowlys Bonne.
Another Azerbaijani wrestler Khetag Gazyumov won world silver in the 97kg class after losing to Russian Abdusalam Gadisov 2-1.
