Polish minister, central bank head cycle along Baku’s streets

Poland's high-ranking officials rode bicycles along Baku's streets during their visit to Azerbaijan.

Polish Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek and Head of Poland's Central Bank Marek Belka visited Baku to attend a meeting of selected group of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, organized by Azerbaijan's Central Bank and Finance Ministry.

The officials decided to familiarize with Baku's streets and take a rest after their talks by riding bicycles in the city center and districts.

Thanks to the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, the guests set out their journey in early morning from Azneft Square toward the suburbs of capital Baku - Buzovna, Bilga, Nardaran, Shuvalan, and Mardakan.

After taking a breath on the shore, the officials returned to the city after cycling a distance of 80 kilometers. The officials noted the development of Azerbaijan, its people's rising interest in cycling as well as their warm attitude towards foreign guests.

Cycling is a new favorite sport in Azerbaijan and many youngsters are actively engaged in it.

It is not a common scene yet to meet top officials bicycling along Baku's streets during their free time. But, now Polish officials' move may promote further this sport in Azerbaijan.
