Azerbaijani wrestlers win European crown

Azerbaijani female wrestler Sabira Aliyeva has won a gold medal at the European championship in Skopje, Macedonia.

She ascended to the winner's rostrum after beating Hungary's Janet Nemat in the final where the two athletes competed in the 72 kg weight bracket.

Furthermore, Azerbaijani female wrestler Patimat Bagomedova won a gold medal at the European championship on July 5. Bagomedova secured the title after beating Russia's Stalvira Orshush in the 51 kg final.

The Azerbaijani female wrestlers ranked 4th in the overall medal table with the two mentioned gold medals.

Overall, the championship was successful for the Azerbaijani wrestlers. A day earlier, Greco-Roman male wrestler Sakit Guliyev won a gold medal at the same championship. He sealed a win after beating Moldova`s Aleksandru Biciu in the 55kg final.

Another wrestler, Ruhin Mikayilov, earned bronze for Azerbaijan in the 66kg category, while Orkhan Nuriyev, who was vying in the 84 kg weight bracket, added another bronze medal to his country's success.

On the first day of the championship, Elman Mukhtarov competing in the 60 kg category won silver thanks to a victory over Russia's Artur Suleymanov.

Wrestler Ramiz Mammadov (50 kg) claimed bronze after beating Turkey's Yasin Karadashli.

The Azerbaijani male wrestlers ranked second, claiming a clutch of five medals, including one gold, one silver and three bronze medals, with 52 points in the overall table of the championship.
