Uzbekistan boosts protection of private sector
Uzbek President Islam Karimov approved the program of measures to ensure the reliable protection of private property, small business and private entrepreneurship.
The measures envisaged by the decree (“On measures to ensure reliable protection of private property, small business and private entrepreneurship, the removal of barriers to their rapid development”), released May 16 in the Uzbek media, since July 1, 2015 establishes a single procedure and frequency of scheduled inspections of micro, small businesses and farms.
Uzbekistan has recently adopted a number of laws aimed at increasing the role of private property and its protection, further improvement of the business environment and business conditions. As a result, the share of small and private businesses, which employs about 80 percent of the population, has grown in the country's GDP from 31 percent in 2000 to 56 percent in 2015.
