Georgian servicemen to carry out peacekeeping mission in Central African Republic
Georgian servicemen will leave for the Central African Republic to carry out a peacekeeping mission in June, French President Francois Hollande said at a joint press conference with Georgian counterpart Giorgi Margvelashvili in Tbilisi on May 13.
"This issue has been resolved," he said. "The president had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Georgian servicemen during the solemn reception at the presidential palace in Tbilisi. The servicemen will carry out a peacekeeping mission under the command of France."
"Georgia has become the first country which agreed to take part in the peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic as part of the EU," Hollande said. "We appreciate this and are grateful to Georgia for this decision."
The Batumi battalion, having rich experience in a peacekeeping activity abroad, has been chosen for the mission in the Central African Republic. The first group of 150 servicemen has already passed special training. It is fully ready to fulfill the mission, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told Trend.
