Moscow, Tehran complete preliminary talks on construction of new nuclear power plant
Preliminary talks on the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Iran have taken place. The corresponding decree of the Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently expected to proceed with the project, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported.
Speaking about the cooperation in the atomic energy field, Ahmadinejad said that it is possible to extend this cooperation to build a new power plant.
"Preliminary discussions were held on this issue, and the corresponding decree of your excellence is expected to complete the work (for drafting the project) and start practical activities," the President of Iran said during the talks with Putin in the Kremlin.
Ahmadinejad recalled that the construction of the Bushehr plant has been completed.
"The nuclear power plant in Bushehr is producing electricity and has turned into a good symbol of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Iran," he said.
He noted that Russia and Iran have good understanding on cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
"As for the oil and gas industry, we have a good understanding that we need to implement in practical terms," Ahmadinejad said.
The head of the Iranian delegation to the IAEA conference Fereydoon Abbasi-Davani said in late June that Iran could soon make the list of selected sites for new nuclear power plants in the country available to the IAEA.
