Saakashvili's party to elect presidential nominee through primaries
The party of Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, United National Movement, will determine its presidential candidate through primaries, parliamentary minority leader David Bakradze said after the meeting of leaders of the National Movement Party on June 17, which was attended by President Saakashvili.
Despite the arrest of Secretary General of UNM Vano Merabishvili, the party intends to prove that it is united and can manifest democratic principles and choose candidate for the presidency through primaries, not through appointment, Bakradze said.
He stressed that several leaders of party will attend in the primaries and they will hold meetings in several regions of Georgia. All party members and the public can choose candidate of the United National Movement.
"It is an open and democratic process," he said.
