New railway opens in Istanbul

The opening of the new Halkali-Gebze railway with length of 76.6 kilometers took place in Istanbul March 12, Trend reports with reference to the Turkish media.

The opening ceremony was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan.

The new railway is integrated with the Marmaray Tunnel.

As many as 38 railway stations have been built as part of construction of the Halkali-Gebze railway.

The launch of the new railway line will contribute to the growth of passenger traffic. Transportation of 1 million passengers by rail daily will be possible.

The total budget allocated for the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey for implementing transport and infrastructure projects in the country will amount to 64.275 billion Turkish liras in 2020-2021.

Some 31.183 billion liras will be allocated for the implementation of projects in 2020, which will be 3.413 billion liras more compared to the budget for 2019.

An amount of 31.092 billion liras will be allocated for the implementation of projects in 2021.
