First Lady visits BEGOC office

Azerbaijani First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Chairperson of the first European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva visited the office of the Operation Committee of the first European Games (BEGOC) on October 16.

Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov and Chief Operating Officer of Baku 2015 Simon Clegg informed Mehriban Aliyeva that high-quality preparations were carried out for the first European Games.

They hailed the Games, saying it will open a new chapter in the European history of sport movement and that Azerbaijan is writing first pages of this history.

Mehriban Aliyeva visited technology, media and information rooms. She was informed that BEGOC involves specialists from 40 countries, with the committee employing 1,000 people including local experts.

The first lady then chaired a meeting that discussed the preparations for the European Games. She gave her instructions and recommendations to those responsible for carrying out the preparatory work.

The first European games will take place from June 12 to 28, 2015. More than 6,000 athletes will compete in 20 sports over 17 days.
