Roles of Azerbaijan and Turkey in Europe’s energy security mulled

A forum entitled "New dynamics in European energy security: Roles of Azerbaijan and Turkey" was organized by ASAIF at the House of Commons of the British Parliament in London.

The main objective of the forum was to provide students with information that may be useful in the analysis of political processes in the region, create an opportunity talk about the growing role of Turkey and Azerbaijan in Europe. The participants also were able to consider the economic, political and social development achieved by Azerbaijan despite the difficult period arising as a result of Armenian occupation in the 1990's, and results of the TANAP project, which is being implemented in cooperation with Turkey, as well as its importance for Europe.

The event was co-organized by the Turkish Network of Students (NOS).

The event was attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the UK Fakhraddin Gurbanov, Director of the London office of SOCAR Rufat Efendiyev and head of foreign policy analysis department of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan Rovshan Ibrahimov, former Turkish Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis, Turkish Consul in Britain Ahmet Demirok , chairman of the Global Resources Corporation Mehmet Oyutchu, British MP Eric Joyce and 250 Turkish and Azerbaijani students studying in the UK and over 15 representatives of various foreign countries.

The event discussed the European energy security and diversification policy, geopolitical developments in the region, the importance of Azerbaijan's export role and Turkey's transit role in Europe's energy supply, the TANAP project and negative impact of the Armenian occupation on Europe's energy security and stability in the region.
