Azerbaijani photographers shine at Tashkent Int’l Photo Biennale

Photo correspondent of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTag) Ilgar Jafarov has won the 7th Tashkent International Photo Biennale.

Jafarov won the gold in "The best documentary photo project" nomination for his "The cry of a heart or a lost childhood" photo series.

The project features 10 photos which he took in Nagorno-Karabakh region during the Armenian-Azerbaijan war. The photos reflect the horrors of war that saw Azerbaijani civilians have their homeland occupied by the Armenian armed forces.

Also, Azerbaijani photographers Zemfira Mahmudova and Arzu Murvatova ranked the second and third in "The best documentary photo project" nomination, respectively.

Photographers from 32 countries submitted nearly 1,500 works to the jury of the 2014 Biennale.

The Biennale featured competition in several nominations, including "The best documentary photo project", "The best conceptual photo project", "The best supervisor project", and "The best feature photography".
