Azerbaijan, Pakistan review economic co-op opportunities

Azerbaijani and Pakistani officials have highlighted cooperation opportunities in various sectors of economy.

Shahin Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s economy and industry minister met on May 5 with Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s minister of finance, revenue, economic affairs, statistics and privatization, who visited Azerbaijan to participate at the 48th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank, held in Baku on May 2-5, AzerTag news agency reported.

Mustafayev said the Pakistani president’s last visit to Azerbaijan, meetings between officials, as well as Azerbaijan-Pakistan business forum held in March have all contributed to the expansion of bilateral relations.

The sides noted that the two countries support each other within international organizations and successfully cooperate in various fields, including the humanitarian sphere.

The Pakistani minister was informed about Azerbaijan’s economy, the country's economic and financial stability, the priority of the non-oil sector, as well as briefed on opportunities of cooperation with Pakistan in various sectors of the economy.

Dar, for his part, said Azerbaijan’s socio-economic development is being observed in Pakistan with big interest.

He also said Pakistan supports Azerbaijan’s fair position in the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Dar further highly appreciated the holding of the first ever European Games and Islamic Solidarity Games 2017 in Baku and shared his views on the prospects of expanding economic ties.

Earlier, Azerbaijan’s president and foreign minister received the Pakistani minister to discuss issues of mutual interest.

Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan on December 12, 1991. The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on June 9, 1992. The Pakistan Embassy to Azerbaijan was opened on March 12, 1993.Azerbaijani Embassy to Pakistan was opened on August 24, 1997.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan enjoy good relations in various spheres.
