Azerbaijan’s Zohra Aghamirova wins license for Olympics 2020

Azerbaijani gymnast Zohra Aghamirova has secured a license for the Olympic Games 2020 during the all-round finals of the 37th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Baku on 20 September, Azernews reported.

Zohra Aghamirova was among the qualifiers who performed in group B.

Agamirova’s most successful performance was in the exercises with a mace, where she scored 21.200 points. Then, Aghamirova appeared with a ribbon, for which she scored 17.100 points from the judges. In the third rotation, the gymnast stepped on the carpet with a hoop and scored 20.900 points. Finally, in the last part of the program, Aghamirova performed the composition with the ball, receiving 19.525 points.

According to the results of four exercises, Aghamirova took 4th place in group B with a total score of 78.725 points. Thus, no matter how the athletes in group A perform, once in the Top 16, Agamirova secured a license for herself and won a license to the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year.

The 37th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships that is being held in Baku will last until September 22. More than 300 gymnasts from 61 countries are competing for nine sets of medals. “Fairy Tales will come to life" is the motto of the championships that started on 16 September.
