The diversity of Azerbaijan’s natural landscapes and climatic zones has contributed to the fact that almost every region of the country can boast of unique sights and natural phenomena, many of which are not found in other locality. One of these regions is Guba.
Guba is famous for its beautiful villages. For example, Krasnaya Sloboda is the most compact settlement of Jews outside of Israel, where mountain Jews have been living for centuries.
Khinalig, the oldest mountain settlement on the territory of Azerbaijan which is more than 5,000 years old, is located at an altitude of 2100-2200 meters.
Here there is also the Griz village, which is one of the most outstanding villages of Guba region located 2,200 meters above sea level. It takes about 3 hours to travel there from Baku city.
This mountain village is located in the foothills of the Ag Dagh Mountain, and on the cost of the Gudyalchay River. Griz is known as the most snow falling place in the rural settlements of Azerbaijan.
There are several springs, waterfall and cave around the village. The village's fascinating waterfall attracts many tourists.
One needs to walk 3-4 km in order to reach this waterfall. It is better to walk on the mountain road, while watching the magnificent view of the mountains. On the road you can come across a few small waterfalls.
Sun begins to melt snow in the mountain, but the cold weather freezes the flowing water in the some parts of the mountain and it creates small waterfalls. It seems that the waterfall is in the cave. Flowing river does not freeze completely, but the waterfall itself is frozen, so, you can walk on it.
The village of Gechresh is probably known to everyone who has ever gone to Guba. This village is remembered by numerous recreation areas, which are located in a dense forest, where the rays of the sun do not penetrate, as well as the road that passes through the forest, where almost every traveler takes a photo.
In addition to the village of Gymyl, located near Gechresh, you can go to the lake in the village of Nugadi. Of course, these are not all the villages of Guba that worth to be mentioned.
The unique high-mountain village of Guba region called Tengealti is the one where you can visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Land of Fire. Afurdja waterfall has turned the village into one of the main attractions of the region, thanks to which tourists flock there not only from Azerbaijan, but also from abroad.
The waterfall has been included in the list of natural monuments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is protected by the state.
There are other waterfalls too, attracting tourists and travelers with their uniqueness and majesty, such as Laza in Gusar, Mychig in Gabala,Tekdam in Yardimli, Ilisu in Gakh, Katekh in Balaken and Seven Beauties in Gabala.
