Azerbaijanis are among the most active Internet users among the Asian nations, a report of the Internet World Stats organization revealed.

The study shows that level of Internet penetration in Azerbaijan, with a population of over 9.8 million, amounts to 75.5 percent. Thus, the number of the country’s Internet users exceeds 7,531 million people.

The report states that the Azerbaijani Internet market forms 0.4 percent of the total Asian market.

Azerbaijan is ahead of many countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, such as Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan for the level of Internet penetration.

Moreover, the country leaves behind all its neighbors, which are Russia, Turkey, Iran, Georgia and Armenia in this index, and also ranks first among the CIS states.

As for the number of users among the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Kazakhstan ranks first – the country has more than 13.2 million Internet users.

The report states that Asian countries account for 50.2 percent of all Internet users in the world. In total, Asia has more than 1.87 billion users of the world wide web.

Overall, the ICT sector has intensively developed in Azerbaijan over the past years. Creation and developing of the e-Government system, expanding the broadband internet services, launch of the telecommunication and low-orbit satellites, and many other are the evidence of Azerbaijan’s success in this sphere.
