Azerbaijan, in a bid to ensure a rapid growth in the agriculture trade, seeks to benefit from the experience of the leading countries in the sphere. The country places a huge emphasis on the development of agriculture, as the sphere is considered to be a locomotive of the non-oil sector.

Canada, one of the largest agricultural producers and exporters in the world, intends to support the development of livestock sector in Azerbaijan through exporting pedigree cattle to the country.

Baris Satar, the trade commissioner at the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, said that currently Azerbaijan does not import pedigree cattle from Canada, but such an interest soon may rise due to the fact that Canada provides all necessary examination of products.

Satar made the remarks addressing an agricultural seminar, organized with the support of the Azerbaijani branch of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) and the largest agricultural producer Azersun Holding.

He further noted that the goal of the Canadian government is to assist Azerbaijan in the development of animal husbandry, including in the growth of productivity, adding that the recently reached agreement on the export of animals will give a stimulus for further cooperation in the sphere.

Satar added that Canada may also offer certain technical solutions to increase productivity of animals, including such measures as improvement of nutritive supplies and vaccination.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Canada amounted to 46.92 million in January-September 2016. Azerbaijan imported production worth some 11.6 million in the reported period.
