Throughout history, people have gone from caves to huts to castles to blocks of flats – and nowadays, seems like you can find an example of just anything.

Some people are forced to get creative because of financial restrictions – like small or unusual space – while others do so just because.

A unique bottle house in Azerbaijan`s Khachmaz region has turned into a beautiful, and at the same time wacky and unique living space. The home is a favorite spot for having a rest for local and foreign tourists coming here.

Balahmad Khanbalayev, 75, the owner of the house, says it took him four years to build this unusual structure, Azertac reported.

“I used 60,000 bottles to build it. All the structures in the yard are also made of bottles”, he said. The house is heated by a wood-burning stove.

Khanbalayev says that in winter he rents the house to both local and foreign tourists at a price of 20 or 30 manats (approximately $17) per day, which is lower than in summer months.

Khachmaz is not the only region where you can meet such unique architecture.

In 1966-67 a Ganja resident Ibrahim Jafarov while building his house used an unusual material - glass bottles.

Totally 48,000 bottles of various shapes and sizes were used in the construction, and he also used colored stones brought from Sochi. Ibrahim Jafarov dedicated the construction of the house to the memory of his brother who was missed during the II World War of 1941-45. The unusual house for many years has been a local attraction.
