Another Azerbaijani cyclist wins licence to Rio-2016

Azerbaijan’s women cyclist Olena Pavlukhina won a license to the 31st Summer Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro in a couple of months.

.Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee and Azerbaijan Cycling Federation received an approval letter from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) confirming that Olena will represent Azerbaijan in a cycling group race.

Under the UCI regulation the points to Rio for all clubs and national teams were until May 31. Olena’s overall points over 2015 and this year’s Europe and Asian tours totaled 149 among 67 athletes challenging for Rio-2016 group race.

“It is also significant to point out that Azerbaijan’s national riders won 4 licenses to the Games. With these honorable licenses Maxim Averin, Olena Pavlukhina and Olga Ismayilova will represent Azerbaijan in group and track races. With her license Olga will be able to participate in both sprint and keirin of track races while Maxim and Olena can do it in men and women’s group race. We wish all the best luck for our athletes!” Azerbaijan Cycling Federation reported.

The 2016 Summer Olympics is due to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on August 5-21. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees will take part in RIO 2016.

The world's biggest sporting event will feature 42 sports and Azerbaijan has secured qualifications in wrestling, gymnastics, rowing, boxing, taekwondo, athletics, weightlifter and in Paralympics sports.
