FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics important for athletes’ ratings

The FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics is very important for deciding upon a team roster for the Rio 2016 Olympics, says Brett Austine, head coach of the Australian gymnastics squad.

Australian team arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, on March 1 to take part in the tournament.

Speaking to Trend March 1, Austine said he expects Australian gymnasts to perform at a high level.

He said such events are very important for the athletes’ ratings and for potential selection for the Olympics.

Austine also says winning a medal is not important – the main thing is to perform well and at a high level.

He said the gymnasts from Russia can be considered his team’s main rivals at the FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics in Baku, adding that Japanese and maybe Belarusian athletes are worth to be noted as well.

Austine says it would also be very interesting for him to see Baku and get to know Azerbaijan closer.

The FIG World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena March 5-6.

Athletes from Europe, Japan, Australia and the US are to participate in the event. Overall, 77 gymnasts (46 men and 31 women), representing 17 countries, will participate in the tournament.
