The National Gymnastics Arena in Baku is fully ready for any competition, said Magsud Farzullayev, the arena’s director, in an interview with Trend Feb. 19.

He said no difficulties occurred when preparing the Arena for the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics, held in Baku.

“We have been holding major events for a long time,” said the Arena’s director. “We have huge experience in organizing them. We worked much on the eve of the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics.”

“The preparation was substantial and it began long before the competitions started,” added Farzullayev.

He also said that major trampoline and rhythmic gymnastics events will be held in the Arena this year.

Farzullayev added that gymnastics events will also be hosted at the Arena during the 2017 Islamic Games.

“The Arena’s format will be fully changed specially for the World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics,” he added. “As a result, its capacity will be temporarily reduced from 6,000 to 3,000 seats. We will make some changes again on the eve of the rhythmic gymnastics event and the previous capacity will be restored.”

Farzullayev also said he is happy that despite the early beginning of the FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics and its being held on a weekday, there are lots of fans in the Arena.

The FIG World Challenge Cup in Artistic Gymnastics kicked off in Baku Feb. 19 and is to end Feb. 21. As many as 45 male and 22 female gymnasts will compete for medals in apparatus finals of the World Challenge Cup.

In general, athletes from 19 countries are to participate in the event.

Men’s and women’s qualifications on the first two days of the competitions will be followed by apparatus finals on the last day.
