Gabala Grand Prix Shotgun wraps up

The second International Grand Prix Shotgun devoted to national leader Heydar Aliyev’s memory wrapped up in Azerbaijan’s region of Gabala on May 23.

During the nine-day competition, the Gabala Grand Prix Shotgun hosted a total of 150 best shooters from 17 countries. The sportsmen all did their best to win the best title in such Olympic disciplines as trap, double trap and skeet.

On the final day of the competition two Azerbaijani team members including Niyaz Agazade and Ali Mustafayev were distinguished. In Skeet Junior Men discipline Agazade Niyaz took first place, while his teammate, Mustafayev placed third. Georgian İrakli Lomidzen gained second place.

On the women’s skeet, held on May 22 Azerbaijani Nurlana Jafarova won a bronze medal. Russian shooter Svetlana Demina for the second year in the competition took first place, while Al Shamaa Eman from Kuwait placed second.

Meanwhile, Jafarova will represent the country at the first ever European Games to be held in Baku on May 12-28.

As the biggest sporting event in Azerbaijan's history, the Baku 2015 European Games will attract more than 6,000 athletes to represent 49 countries in 20 sports: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports.

Earlier, national team members, Rana Alaskarova and Alimirza Guliyev showed good results, taking gold medals.

In Women Trap Azerbaijani Alaskarova Rana took first place, while Makela-Nummela Satu from Finland and Alhawal Sarah from Kuwait placed second and third, respectively.

In Trap Junior Men national Guliyev Alimirza won a gold medal. Two Australia's shooters Wallace Jack Australia and Bylsma Samuel placed second and third, respectively.

The prize fund of the tournament stood at $96,500. The first Heydar Aliyev International Grand Prix Shotgun was held in Gabala in August 2014 with a $81,000 prize fund.
