The Synergy Baku Cycling Project heads to Malaysia and its first stage race of the year, Le Tour de Langkawi to be held on March 8-15. The race covers 1118 km divided across eight stages, offering unique challenges and climbs.

The Azerbaijani team will be led by Oleksandr Surutkovych, who will go for the team’s GC chances, and Elchin Asadov, who the team expects to see in breakaways.

The other three riders for whom such races are an important step in their development are Elgun Alizada, Enver Asanov and Samir Jabrayilov. They will all be making their first appearance in Langkawi.

These three riders are in fact three of the youngest in the race. Alizada, 18, is the second youngest overall, while Asanov and Jabrayilov, both 20, are respectively the fourth and fifth youngest participants in the race.

“We are looking forward to Langkawi with a predominantly Azerbaijan's team,” sport director Jeremy Hunt said. “Developing the young guys is one of the team’s goals and riding Langkawi follows the same path as Australia and Great Britain have used in the past.”

“This race is to give the U23 riders some race experience for the future and with its profile it is perfectly suited to this purpose.”

The race features 12 climbs, including the steep mountain top finish on the Genting Highlands, which this year is the penultimate stage and should decide the overall winner.
