Oleg Stepko becomes five-time Azerbaijan champion

The final stage of the Open Joint Azerbaijan Championships in Gymnastics kicked off in Baku on March 6.

On the last day of the competition some 26 sets of medals including 10 in gymnastics competition, two in aerobics, four in acrobatics and four in trampolining competitions, as well as six in rhythmic gymnastics will be awarded.

Azerbaijani gymnast Oleg Stepko shined in the championship, as he became the five-time champion.

He gained four gold medals on the last day of the competition. Oleg took first places in horizontal bar, parallel bars, rings and pommel horse.

Azerbaijan’s Petr Pakhuk won his fourth silver medal in bars, gaining 15,266 points.

Another national gymnast Marina Smirnova brought a gold medal in the vault, gaining 13,266 points. Turkish Demet Mutlu came second with 13,050 points, followed by Norwegian Martin Skregelid with 11,666 points.

Marina also scooped the gold in cheer floor competition.

Moreover, Kristina Pravdina took her second gold medal in uneven bars, gaining 13, 266 points. Tutya Yilmaz from Turkey with 12,966 points took second place.

Demet Mutlu with 12,366 points placed third. Azerbaijan’s Marina Smirnova took fourth place, with 11,166 points.

National gymnast Marina Durunda scored 17,450 points in hoop, which saw her awarded a bronze medal. The first place was taken by Russian gymnast Yana Kudryavtseva with 18,866 points. Second place went to Georgian Salome Pazhava with 17,716 points.

Some 133 gymnasts from 22 countries competed for medals both in the all-around and the individual competitions in the test championship running at the National Gymnastics Arena of Baku on the eve of the European Games on March 4-6.
