Azerbaijani sportsman gains December Rising Star Prize

By Amina Nazarli

The World Rowing Federation, FISA, awarded Azerbaijani rower Boris Yotov with the Rising star prize of December.

Azerbaijan’s promising 18-year-old rower Yotov won a bronze medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships in the men’s single sculls in 2013.

This year he won a silver medal in the single category at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. He has already proven himself at a senior level, winning a silver medal at the 2014 European Rowing Championships and at the World Rowing Cup in Aiguebelette, France, in the men’s double sculls. For these reasons, World Rowing has picked him up as an athlete on the rise in the world of rowing.

The FISA website also published an interview they conducted with Boris.

Rowing, for me, is… a way of life.

So far, my favorite accomplishment in rowing is… taking the second place at the World Rowing Cup in the men’s double sculls (M2x).

If I wasn't rower, my sport would be... volleyball, because when I was younger, I trained in football and volleyball. And if I hadn’t continued with rowing, I would have continued my training in volleyball.

My sporting heroes are… the Sinkovic brothers from Croatia.

If I could have one super power it would be… teleportation so that I could teleport myself anywhere, anytime.

My favorite training session is… interval training

My least favorite training session is… is the Concept2 machine, because it is really heavy.

The regatta venue I like most is… in Lucerne, Switzerland.

When I am not rowing, I… like to meet friends.

My favorite music is… rap, and my favorite artist is Eminem.

My goal in rowing is… to win a medal at the Olympic Games in Rio.
