Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Said Guliyev at 73kg won the gold
medal at the Second Summer Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing,
China.
Guliyev beat Germany's Hamza Adnan Karim with the score of 10-4 in
the final, despite going 2-0 down in the first round. The
Azerbaijani fighter landed a head kicks at the beginning of round
two and took the control.
"I feel difficult to tell you my emotions, you have to become a champion in order to understand these emotions," Guliyev said. "I am now the happiest person on earth."
In order to make the men's -73kg weight class, Guliyev had to lose four kilograms after arriving in Nanjing. "This was the first thing I did after I came here, but there was enough time as we arrived on August 12," seventeen year old Guliyev said.
"I was even happy to be in the final but now I got the gold. Azerbaijan never had a gold medal in taekwondo at Olympic Games, so I made history," Said noted.
Thereby, Azerbaijan's medal haul includes one gold and four silver medals.
