Baku Cup 2014 underway

The "Baku Cup-2014" international tournament is running in Baku under the leadership of Women`s Tennis Association (WTA). 32 highly ranked tennis players compete in the main court.

The games run in 4 tennis hard courts within the Baku Tennis Academy (BTA).

The first match of July 22 was held between Serbian Vesna Dolonts and Russian Ksenya Gaydarzi. Dolonts won the match 2:0.

The other match between English Khiter Watson French Kristina Mladenovic finished 2:1 in favor of French tennis player.

Another favorite of Baku Cup 2014 left the competition. So, famous Italian tennis player Francesca Schiavone defeated her rival Japanese Kurumi Nara 2:0.

One of the interesting moments of the competition was the game between sixteen years old Nazrin Jafarova from Azerbaijan and Jana Chepelova from Slovakia. At the stressful match Slovak player could get the victory with the score 2:0.

Today Ukrainian Olga Savchuk met with 18 years old Donna Vekic from Croatia, where the Croatian tennis player could reach (1/8 final).

Misa Eguchi from Japon also could reach 1/8 final, winning Magdalena Ribakova from Slovakia with the score 2:0.

The first day of the competition held on July 21, remembered with interesting games.

The game between two Russian tennis players, Elizaveta Kulichkova and Ksenia Pervak in the third court of the tournament was finished by the victory of the last, 2:0.

In parallel to this match, Serbian Yovana Jaksic and Romanian Raluca Olaru played in the Central Court. World's 123 Jaksic could win the match 2:0, thus passing to the second tour.

Ukrainian tennis players Kozlova and Olga Savchuk faced each other. At the match resulted with the score 2-0 world`s 217 Olga won world`s 128 Katerina with ease.

Azerbaijani representative Zuleykha Safarova was defeated Alexandra Sasnovic from Belarus, 2:0.

The match between Ukrainian Olga Savchuk and Russian Kseniya Pervak who faced each other on the second day of the tournament was completed by the dominance of Olga Savchuk, who won the match 2-1. Thereby, Savchuk became the third player who won the right to play in the main draw.

The first match of the main draw was played in the Centre Court of the Baku Tennis Academy.

The match between Aleksandra Cadantu of Romania and Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland lasted 1 hour 24 minutes. Voegele won the match 2:0. Due to this victory, the Swiss tennis player will play in the fourth round (1/8 final).

The last two players successfully finishing this round were Danka Kovinic of Montenegro and Misa Eguchi of Japan.

Danka Kovinic won Aleksandra Panova from Russia. Danka Kovinic, who made less mistakes and won the match 2-1.

In another match that was taking place simultaneously with this one Japanese Misa Eguchi defeated French Amandine Hesse with the score 2-0.

Thus, Ukrainians Katerina Bondarenko and Olga Savchuk, Serbian Vesna Dolontc and Uzbek Nigina Abduraimova were followed by Danka Kovinic and Misa Eguchi to play in the main draw.

The final of the tournament will take place in the Central Court on July 27, which seats 3,000 spectators.

The prize fund of the event will be $250 thousand this year.

"Baku Cup" tournament has been held annually in Baku since 2011.
