Azerbaijan joins David Bronstein Memorial chess tournament

Azerbaijan's chess players have joined the David Bronstein Memorial chess tournament that kicked off in Minsk, Belarus on February 12.

The tournament brings together 148 chess players, including 69 grandmasters.

Azerbaijan`s hopes will be pinned on Rauf Mammadov, Eltaj Safarli, Vasif Durarbayli, Vugar Rasulov, Nijat Abbasov, Bahruz Rzayev, Orxan Abdulov, Gulnar Mammadova, Khayala Abdulla, Sabina Ibrahimova, Narmin Kazimova, Narmin Khalafova and Gunay Mammadzade.

The Swiss system tournament consists of 9 rounds.

David Bronstein was a Soviet chess grandmaster, who narrowly missed becoming World Chess Champion in 1951. Bronstein was one of the world's strongest players from the mid-1940s into the mid-1970s, and was described by his peers as a creative genius and master of tactics. He was also a renowned chess writer.
