Azerbaijan`s grandmaster Rajabov shares points with Boris Gelfand in FIDE tournament

Azerbaijani Grandmaster Teymur Rajabov has shaired points with Boris Gelfand at the FIDE Candidates` Tournament Round 1, which runs from March 14 - April 2 in London, with the winner earning the right to challenge current world champion Vishy Anand for the title.

Magnus Carlsen started with a comfortable draw with black against Levon Aronian, while Vladimir Kramnik played the rather strategically risky against Peter Svidler.

The FIDE Candidates started in London with AGON headed by Andrew Paulson and FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in attendance. New chess pieces, chess app and a new amphitheatre like setting were amongst the innovations.

The tournament is an 8-player double round-robin event. The total prize fund is €510,000 (approx 665,000 USD).

The time control is 2 hours for 40 moves, then an extra hour added for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes more with a 30 second increment to finish.
