Georgia, Azerbaijan to jointly bid for Euro 2020
Georgia and neighboring Azerbaijan have agreed to make a joint bid to host the European soccer championship finals in 2020, President Mikheil Saakashvili said in an address to Azerbaijan`s parliament during an official visit to Baku last week.
The bidding process to host Euro 2020 is expected to start later this year, with the winner announced in 2014.
Seven bids have so far been submitted to host the tournament - Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium, as well as joint applications from Romania and Bulgaria; the Czech Republic and Slovakia; Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia; and Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Azerbaijan earlier applied to host the 2012 European champ, but did not pass the first stage of the selection.
