Azerbaijan names squad for World Judo Championships

Azerbaijan has named a squad for the 2017 World Judo Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 28 to September 3.

Some 782 fighters from 39 countries will compete in the tournament, Azertac reported.

Azerbaijan’s squad includes 17 judo fighters (9 men and 8 women).

Orkhan Safarov (60 kg), Nijat Shilkhaizade (66 kg), Rustam Orujov, Hidayat Heyderov (73 kg), Mammadali Mehdiyev, Tural Safguliyev (90 kg), Elhan Mammadov, Elmar Gasimov (100 kg) and Ushanqi Kokauri (over 100 kg) will vie for the medals.

Rustam Orujov and Hidayat Heydarov will compete in a category up to 73 kilograms, while Elkhan Mammadov and Elmar Gasimov will fight in 100 kg weight category.

Azerbaijan's female team includes Bazarraqca Erdenebat (48 kg), Nazaket Azizova, Buyanxishiq Purevsuren (52 kg), Ichinhorlo Munkhtsedev (57kg), Sakina Zakirova (57kg), Gulzadaf Karimova (63kg), Irina Kindzerska (over 78 kg), Leyla Aliyeva (48kg).
