Baku Olympic Complex has hosted multiathlon championship in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, Trend Life reported.

The multiathlon championship was held among employees of the Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry and was co-organized by the Sports Club and the Ministry’s Trade Union.

A minute of silence was observed to remember the victims of Khojaly genocide, committed by the Armenian troops against Azerbaijani civilians in the town of Khojaly on February 26. Some 613 civilians mostly women and children were killed in the massacre, and a total of 1,000 people were disabled. Eight families were exterminated, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children.

In their remarks, Chairman of the Union Mehman Ismayilov and head of the club, Colonel Fuzuli Musayev stressed that the Khojaly Massacre is one of the most serious crimes not only against Azerbaijani people but also humanity.

The competition was attended by 80 athletes of 19 teams representing the various structures of the Ministry. The sportsmen competed for medals in running, high and long jumps and other sports.

The first place was taken by a team of the State Fire Service. The second place went to Ganja Regional Center, while the State Water Rescue Service ranked the third.

The winners in individual games are Elmir Akhadov, Ulvi Rajabli and Salahaddin Mehdiyev. All the winners were awarded with diplomas, cups, medals and valuable prizes.
