Over 900 of the best taekwondo athletes from around the world struggled for international honors at the European Clubs Taekwondo Championships held in Antalya, Turkey.
The Azerbaijani taekwondo fighters have successfully performed at the Championships held on February 6-9 and brought home a clutch of 32 medals.
The junior fighters claimed nine medals on the first day of the tournament, while more 13 medals were secured on the second day.
Fighters Fizam Mehdiyev (58kg) and Aykhan Taghizade (68kg) claimed the gold medals on the third day of the Championships, while Mikayil Aliyev claimed the silver in the 54kg weight category.
The national taekwondo fighters claimed seven medals, including two gold, on the last day of the tournament.
The gold medals came from Milad Beigi Harchaqami and Patimat Abakarova. Radik Isayev and Ramin Azizov claimed the silvers while Yaprak Erish, Farida Azizova and Jeyhun Hasanli scooped the bronze medals of the tournament.
Azerbaijan’s Gilan Sports Club was ranked first and was named the most powerful club of the Continent.
Moreover, Azerbaijani athletes also attended “Turkish open” international tournament held on February 11.
The junior taekwondo fighters have brought home a clutch of seven medals, including a gold from Turkish Open tournament held in Antalya.
The gold medal came from Ayaz Ganbarli. Other Azerbaijani fighters Aysu Mammadova, Mehriban Mammadova and Orkhan Taghizade claimed the silvers, while Parviz Isgandarov, Minaya Akbarova and Sevda Pirseyidova won the bronze medals of the tournament.
Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.
