FM says Turkey not burden to EU
Turkey is not a burden to the European Union, says Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
“Turkey’s membership will further strengthen the EU,” Cavusoglu said, TRT Haber news channel reported June 22.
Cavusoglu added the EU must fight such negative phenomena as the rise of racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in the EU, which can lead to the Union’s weakening.
Ankara submitted an EU membership application in 1987, and negotiations on its accession started only in 2005.
