Turkmenistan to expand gas chemical industry

Turkmenistan is currently engaged in expanding of its positions in gas chemical industry. The country has recently launched implementation of numerous projects in this area.

Turkmen Minister of Oil and Gas Miratgeldi Meredov mentioned that the country is planning to establish a number of industrial projects over processing of natural gas, construction of the diesel, naphtha, polyethylene, polypropylene production plants as well as gas chemical complex for manufacturing of a number of goods in the nearest future. Majority of the gas chemical and gas processing plants are export-focused.

The country places great importance on working with world leading organizations and using brand-new technologies.

Given the fact that natural gas is one of the most environmentally friendly energy resources Turkmenistan pays a special attention to the development and strengthening of gas chemical industry.

The construction of modern gas processing facilities is considered to be an important step for the further development and successful implementation of the energy strategy in the country, diversification of the national economy, strengthening of its positions in the world markets.

Currently, the implementation of the project of gas-chemical complex in the Kiyanly village Balkan region for the production of polyethylene and polypropylene is underway. Kiyanly complex is meant to process 5 billion cubic meters of gas and return 4.5 billion cubic meters back to the country's gas transportation system. The cost of the project amounts to $3.4 billion.

Another innovative project which is aimed at manufacturing of gasoline by means of natural gas processing is also under construction. The project's total cost is estimated at $1.7 billion. Being located in the country's Ahal region it is considered to be the world's largest project for gasoline production out of natural gas.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the energy industry of the Caspian region. The Central Asian state has the world's fourth largest natural gas reserves.
